What to do on the Gunflint Trail

While the cabins are comfortable it’s the outdoors that people really come here  to enjoy. Here’s a list of things people like to do while staying in our cabins.

Any day and Everyday things

  • Visit the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center.
  • Sit on the dock and watch the sunset
  • Get up early and have  coffee on your deck, listen to the birds
  • Have a campfire in your fire ring
  • Look up at the stars

Paddling to/on:

  • Stairway Portage and Rose Falls
  • Daniels Lake for great BWCA fishing
  • Iron Lake to look for moose and waterfowl
  • Poke around HJ Lake

Hike

  • Honeymoon bluff on HJ Lake
  • Caribou Rock Trail – ten minutes to overlook or all day to Rose Falls
  • Magnetic Rock Trail
  • Kekekabic Trail
  • The Border Route Trail Loops
  • Mount Baldy
  • Eagle Mountain -highest point in Minnesota!

Fish

  • From your dock – easy bass for the family
  • HJ Lake – bass, walleye, northern, pan fish
  • Iron Lake – northern pike
  • Duncan Daniels, Rose – bass and spring lake trout
  • Visit some secret walleye lakes
  • Leo Lake for rainbow trout

Bird watching

  • From your deck
  • Our road/drive
  • Lima Mountain Road
  • In the recent burns
  • Old growth pines on Duncan Lake
  • Jack pine forests near the end of the Gunflint Trail

Wildlife Viewing
