BWCAW Clusure Extended Through 7/29/26

July 23, 2026

Howdy Folks,

We just received notice that the USFS will be extending the Boundary Waters Closure through July 29th 2026.  That means all overnight permits through the 29th will be cancelled.  It also means ALL permits for dates after July 29th ARE NOT cancelled as of today.  So if you trip starts on or after July 30 there is still the possibility that your trip will happen as planned.  Weather has improved, we have recieved rain throughout the region and fire crews are making progress on containing many of the fires west of us.  As has been the case –  there are no fires near us.

In a seperate bit of news the USFS is opening some parts of the BWCAW to DAY USE ONLY starting next Monday, July 27th, in the eastern part of the BWCAW – from Ham Lake to the East. It is a good step and a logical one toward reopening places to overnight use.

As always, there is a lot of semi and incorrect information out there.  Please let us know if you have questions related to your trip whenever it is scheduled to happen.  Phone or email is fine, just know we are busy and not always able to answer immediately.
