Many BWCAW Entry Points Open Now

Today we sent people into the BWCAW on overnight trips for the first time in a while. We also had a pretty cool thunder storm with about a half inch of rain around midday. It felt good to have a normal day. Deliver breakfast. Meet some new folks. Talk about trips. Issue permits. Drive to entry points. Fix things. Wash canoes.

We also had some folks come back from trips just outside the BWCAW on Gunflint and North Lake. They had a great time and salvaged the trip they were unable to do because of the closure. Another group came out yesterday from Moss lake. The campsite there is outside the BW and so a group of dads and 10 year old daughters had a few nights in the woods together. They even got to do a day trip up to Stairway Portage and a little hike once there.

Last night we attended the local fire update public information meeting. It seems the weather has helped tame the fire considerably. Lots rain over the region and a generous amount right over some of the fires west of here. Hot shot crews are making progress containing and extinguishing sections that have been burning. While we can’t completely predict what the weather will do it seems we are in a cycle of cooler, wetter weather for a while.

Looks like August will be a good time to be in the woods. Blueberries and raspberries are ripe and plentiful. Come-n-getum!
